nomads and villagers |
|
for warmth and beauty . More recently in the west ,
they have graced home and offices with their Art and luxury. The great thing
about handmade rugs is that they
don't really need that much maintenance. An oriental rug is purchase of a
lifetime and when properly maintained for generations. Walking on rugs will not hurt them.
Infact many
corporate office use handmade rugs in a foyer or other places where traffic is incredibly high. But although these rugs can
withstand such high abuse, they will definitely last even longer with just

1)
Cleaning &
Vacuuming
|
| Cleaning ensures that richness of color and
softness of rug is not lost. Depending on the traffic a professional
cleaning of your rug is recommended every 8-10 years Vacuuming not only
ensures removal of dirt but restoring life to the fibers. Certain things
must be kept in mind though.
|
|
a) Be sure not to vacuum the fringes.
b) Be sure to broom in the same direction
in which the pile of the rug faces.
c) Try not to use a vacuum cleaner with a
beater brush. Suction vacuum cleaners are best to use with handmade rugs.
Again, try to vacuum the rug going with the pile, not against it which
forces the dirt back into the rug.

2)
Rotation & direct sunlight
|
| To
ensure even wear, your rug should be rotated once a year. Depending on
traffic the rotation may wary from one year to two years. As for direct
sunlight, long constant exposure to it may cause the colors in rugs to
mute and slightly fade. This will give the rug an antique look. Many
people favor this style and therefore purposely leave their rugs under the
sun for long periods of time. Though this practice is not recommended by
Channi Carpets.. |

|
3)Under-padding
|
|
It is a
very good idea to buy under-padding along with your rug. It helps keep
your rug firmly in place and won't allow the rug to move around when
walked on or vacuumed. Under-padding also prevents the crushing and
wearing of the pile after extensive use and this extends the life of the
rug.

4)Blotting
& Stain removing
|
| Because
a rug is part of your home and your life, it should be accepted that
someday an accident will happen involving it. Juice, cola ,wine or some
other drink might spill , do not panic and take cold tap water and pour a
fairly large amount on the spot to dilute the stain. Then extract the
water immediately. Repeat this two or three times, or more if needed. If
you've reacted quickly, you'll be able to remove the stain. The key is to
react quickly .Do it yourself and do it right away. For solid spills ,take
a spoon and carefully scoop-up the material. |
